“You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you, and we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.”

- Arthur Plotnik

 Editing vs Proofreading

At Scribble, we offer both editing and proofreading as part of our service since both are required to improve the quality of writing.

Editing

An editor looks for and corrects errors such as:

  • Spelling

  • Punctuation

  • Grammar

  • Basic fact checking

  • Usage and style

By definition, editing will help improve the readability, clarity, and consistency in style and tone of your text. It helps polish your writing for smooth narration.

Proofreading

After your work has been designed and formatted for publishing, a ‘proof’ is given to a proofreader for final review before going to print. Since it comes right before publication, proofreading is the last line of defence against errors.

Importantly, a proofreader is not looking to fix your content, but just correct any errors. Proofreading, by definition, is a surface-level check. It is the final check performed on a document.
